Falcons swing past West Georgia 10-3 in game one

MONTEVALLO - The Montevallo baseball team took a 10-3 win to kick off the series against West Georgia, Friday night in Bob Reisner Stadium.  With the win the Falcons are now 34-12 this season with a 17-10 GSC record.

UP NEXT: The Falcons will continue the West Georgia series on Saturday, April 30th with a double-header starting at 1:00pm at Bob Reisner.

PITCHING
Gino Cozzi (7-5) earned the win for UM on the hill, he faced 24 batters only giving up three hits, with four strikeouts and two walks in 6.1 innings.  Connor Phelan (6) came in for the save, allowing one hit and striking out one.

KEY PLAYS

Top/Bottom 2nd

West Georgia's Logan Fink broke the game open after he homered over the right field fence to give the Wolves a 1-0 lead.

Montevallo found an answer during their next at bat when centerfielder Riley Cain provided an RBI single, tying the game 1-1.  The Falcons put together an additional run after Brandon Moore was walked with bases loaded.
Jake Smallwood created another scoring opportunity for UM after he singled to right field with bases loaded, bringing the Falcon lead ro 3-1.

Bottom 5th
The Falcons added to their lead after Sam Kuchinski went yard over center field, bringing UM's lead to 4-1.  Montevallo's success continued in the fifth after Will Pratt hit a double that brought home Reed Latimer for
the Falcon's fifth run.

Top 6th
UWG cut into Montevallo's lead after Collin Moore stepped up and hit a ground rule double setting the score at 5-2.  The Wolves added a third run in the inning after Jackson Webb doubled to left field brining in another run.

Bottom 8th
Jake Smallwood hit a double to right center, allowing two runs for a 7-3 lead. Smallwood kept making plays for the Falcons, scoring the next UM run from third base on a passed ball.  Reed Latimer provided UM with a two run homerun, boosting the lead to 10-3
