Falcons win big in final regular season game, and split DH with UWG

MONTEVALLO - The Montevallo baseball team concluded the 2022 regular season with a 19-1 win after falling 5-3 in game one of Saturday's double header against West Georgia.  The Falcons conclude the season with a 35-13 overall record and 18-11 Gulf South Conference record.

UP NEXT: The Falcons will battle for a conference title at the Gulf South Conference Championships starting on Friday, May 6th at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Alabama.

Game 1 Summary

The scoreboard was left blank until the fifth inning when Jake Smallwood sacrificed himself to bring Riley Cain across home plate for a score.  Montevallo added two additional runs during the fifth from back-to-back sac flies giving UM a 3-0 lead by the end of the fifth inning.

West Georgia responded in the following inning after Anthony Calabro doubled to right center with bases loaded, setting the game to 3-3.

The Wolves snagged the lead in the eighth inning after Collin Moore homered to left field to give them a 4-3 lead.

The Wolves put together an additional run in the ninth inning to establish a 5-3 lead. Montevallo took a stab at the UWG lead but ultimately did not execute the comeback.

Game 2 Summary

The Falcons did not let the rain delay between games slow throw them off as they dominated in game two.  Sam Kuchinski kicked the Falcons off with a double that sent both Jake Smallwood and Reed Latimer across home plate for a 2-0 lead.

The Falcons exploded for 15 unanswered runs before West Georgia's Davis Schwartz hit a double to left field that brought in Fuzzy Furr.  Chet Moore sealed the deal for UM, hitting a home run with Kuchinski on base to bring in UM's final runs.
