HUNTSVILLE, Ala. --- The Montevallo softball team got back in the win column on Sunday with a 6-0 shutout of West Florida. The Falcons avoided a sweep at the hands of the Argonauts who won both games on Saturday. With the win. the Falcons picked up their 20th victory of the season, improving to 20-13 and 10-6 in the Gulf South Conference. Meanwhile, UWF fell to 21-9 and 14-4.
Next Up: The Falcons hit the road next weekend for another Gulf South Conference series at West Alabama. The two teams will play a single game on Friday at 5 p.m., then wrap up the series on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
Pitching
Mychael McMillan and
Kaylee Hawkins combined to silence the West Florida offense, limiting the Argonauts to one hit in the pitcher's dual. McMillan (9-4) came in to relieve Hawkins and pitched four hitless innings. She had two strikeouts and two walks. Hawkins struck out one and walked one, while allowing the lone hit.
Falcons Leaders
The Falcons had only four hits in the game, but three of them were home runs.
Sierra Easterwood hit her team-leading 14th of the season, a three-run homer. Meanwhile
Hannah Carey had a two-run shot, her fourth, and
Taylor Robinson hit her sixth, which was a solo homer.
