LIVINGSTON, Ala. --- The Montevallo softball team hit five home runs and piled up 10 hits in a decisive five-inning, 14-4 win over West Alabama on Friday in the opening game of a three game Gulf South Conference series. With the win, the Falcons improved to 21-13 and 11-7 in the GSC, while UWA slipped to 17-17 and 9-10.
Next Up: The Falcons and Tigers complete the three-game GSC series tomorrow afternoon with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
Pitching
Mychael McMillan improved to 10-4 with the win. She pitched all five innings, allowed four runs on seven hits, struck out six and walked four.
Falcons Leaders
Sydnee Pawlak hit two of the Falcons' five home runs and drove in six runs.
Alisha Lanyon had two hits and a 2-run homer, while
Carlee Mullinax and
Taylor Robinson also had 2-run shots out of the park. The foursome provided 12 of the Falcons runs in the win.

Top 2nd
After spotting UWA a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, the Falcons answered with six runs on only three hits. Two of the hits were 2-run bombs by
Alisha Lanyon and
Carlee Mullinax.
Georgia Hughes also scored on a single by
Sierra Easterwood and
Sydnee Pawlak came home on a wild pitch.
Bottom 2nd
UWA got one of the runs back on a walk with the bases-loaded. But, McMillan limited the Tigers to the one run, leaving the Falcons with a 6-3 lead.
Top 3rd
The Falcons loaded the bases with an out and Pawlak broke out the big stick to clean them off with a grand slam that made it 10-3.
Top 4th
The offensive explosion continued as
Taylor Robinson added a 2-run blast and Pawlak went deep for the second time in the game, driving home two more runs. The two homers gave the Falcons a 14-3 cushion. The Tigers scored a run in the fifth to provide the final margin.
