Falcons come up short in GSC opening round

Box Score OXFORD, Ala. - The Montevallo baseball team fell 5-3 to Alabama Huntsville, Friday at the Gulf South Conference baseball tournament.

UP NEXT: The Falcons will face West Florida for a chance to stay alive in the tournament, with the first pitch set for Saturday, April 7th at 10:00 AM.

GAME SUMMARY

The Falcons found success early in the game as Jake Smallwood stepped up and hit a home run in the first inning to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.  UAH tied the Falcons in the second inning after a sacrifice fly gave the Chargers a scoring opportunity.

The game remained tied for five innings until a UAH homerun allowed them to take the lead 2-1 in the seventh inning.  That homer would spark the Chargers to find four additional runs by the end of the eighth inning, edging UM 5-1.

The Falcons received a boost from Ben Teel after he homered with Matt Simon on base, setting the score to 5-3.  The Falcons fought hard but were unable to complete the comeback attempt over UAH.
