Men's lacrosse soars past Shorter 24-5 in PBC opener

MONTEVALLO, Ala. --- The Montevallo Falcons cruised into the semifinals of the Peach Belt Conference men's lacrosse tournament with a dominant 24-5 win over Shorter University on Tuesday night at the UM Lacrosse Field. With the win, the Falcons (9-7) advanced to take on No. 2 seed Lander University on Friday in Huntsville, Alabama. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. at Charger Field on the campus of the University of Alabama Huntsville.

Scoring Leaders
Montevallo - Scott Friant, Griffin Brennan, Trevayne Hunter, and Henry Casement all had five points to lead the Falcons. Casement had four goals and an assist, while Hunter, Friant and Brennan all scored two goals and had three assists each. Nicholas Cavellier also scored three goals for the Falcons.

Shorter - Earl Marshall and Alexander Hudgins scored two goals apiece to lead the Hawks.

1st Quarter
Thomas Vaesen scored the first goal of the game with 11:59 left in the quarter with an assist from Ryan Shea. Three minutes later, Shea found Scott Friant who ripped a shot past the Hawks goalie for the second goal. Jackson Klewchuk made it 3-0 off of a assist from Friant. The Falcons continued to roll as Nicholas Cavellier got into the scoring column with a goal. Friant, and Trevayne Hunter each had two goals and three assists in the first quarter onslaught. Vaesen also scored two goals, while Cavellier also found the net twice.

2nd Quarter
The Falcons added to their lead with three more goals. Klewchuk, Brennan and Jack Morris each scored. Brennan added an assist for the Falcons. Noah Deitz added his second assist, while Coleman Hargis tallied his first assist of the game. Shorter scored a pair of goals to make it 14-2 at the half.

3rd Quarter
Henry Casement had two goals and an assist, while Brennan added a goal and two assists to his totals as the Falcons increased their lead to 20-3, outscoring the Hawks 6-1.

4th Quarter
The Falcons finished off the victory by outscoring the Hawks 4-2 in the final period.
