Volleyball Earns Sixth Straight Win 3-2 Over Spring Hill

 
MOBILE, Ala.– The University of Montevallo Volleyball team improved to 8-4 on the year with a 3-2 victory over Spring Hill, Tuesday, following a dominant offensive performance in the fifth set.
 
The road win over the Badgers marks the sixth consecutive win for the Falcons as conference play approaches.
 
Montevallo opened the match with wins in both the first and second sets but dropped the third and fourth. The win was sealed in the fifth as the Montevallo took its third five-set win of the year, 25-23, 25-20, 17-25, 19-25, 15-11.
 
The Falcons opened the match with a 25-23 win in the first set by holding the Badgers to a .171 hit percentage and recording three blocks. The storyline continued in the second set as Montevallo added four more blocks and held Spring Hill to just a .043 clip in the set, winning 25-20.
 
In the third and fourth sets, Spring Hill flipped the script, holding Montevallo to .103 and .159 hit percentages, respectively. The Falcons dropped the third set 25-17 and the fourth, 25-19. The Badgers hit .306 in the fourth set to force a tie-breaking fifth.
 
In the final set, Montevallo registered nine kills and just two errors for a .467 hit percentage. Spring Hill hit at just a .059 clip in the final set.
 
Senior Allie Dishman led the Falcons offensively with 14 kills while hitting .433 with just one error. Dishman was one of four Falcons to record double-digit kills in the win.

GAME NOTES
 
  • Four Falcons recorded double-digit kills in the match. Dishman led the way with 14, followed by Kamble Frenette (12), Macy Martin (10) and Aliyah Thompson (10).
  • Frenette and Martin each recorded a double-double with 15 and 11 digs, respectively.
  • Montevallo managed eight total blocks in the match, compared to just six for the Badgers, and were led by Dishman and Thompson, in that regard, with five each.
  • Colton Thompson gathered a team-high 25 assists, just two ahead of Sav Roys who contributed 23, and led the squad with four service-aces.
  • Casey Hendrixson collected 22 digs and is just 28 away from 1,000 in her career. She averaged 4.4 digs per set in the match.
  • Montevallo hit .169 in the match, narrowly topping the Badgers .168 clip.
     
HOW IT HAPPENED

Set 1
  • Both sides battled early on before Jillian Morgan capped a 5-2 Montevallo run, giving the Falcons a four-point lead, 11-7.
  • Spring Hill briefly took the lead back, 13-11, but a 6-0 run, ending in a Thompson ace, propelled the Falcons in front, 20-16.
  • A quick 4-0 Badger run tied the set 20-20 before a 5-3 scoring advantage, that included four Spring Hill errors, favored the Falcons.   
  • Montevallo narrowly edged the Badgers, 25-23, in the first set, in part to a solid defensive performance that included three blocks and held Spring Hill to a .171 hit percentage.
 
 
Set 2
  • To start the second, Montevallo opened on a 9-2 run that was capped with a kill from Aliyah Thompson. The Falcons registered four kills and two aces to start the set.
  • For most of the set, Montevallo controlled the lead. Ahead, 22-15, the Badgers put together a 5-1 run to cut the lead to three, 23-20.
  • Back-to-back kills from Dishman put the Falcons up 2-0 in the match with a 25-20 win in the set.
  • Defense continued to be a positive factor for the Falcons as the squad held Spring Hill to a .043 hit percentage in the set while adding four more blocks.
Set 3
  • Both sides traded scores early on before a 6-0 run put the Badgers ahead 10-3.
  • The deficit was cut two, 10-2, after a pair of Badger errors and an Aliyah Thompson kill concluded a 3-0 scoring spurt.
  • Montevallo was unable to come any closer the rest of the way as Spring Hill bested the Falcons 25-17 while hitting .231. The home side held Montevallo to a .103 mark, flipping the script from the previous tow sets.
Set 4
  • Spring Hill controlled the fourth set early and raced out to an 8-3 advantage.
  • Down 18-9, Montevallo added four consecutive points, including a pair of kills from Macy Martin, to cut the deficit to five, 18-13.
  • The Badgers pushed the lead to six, 22-16 following a kill.
  • Montevallo added three more points down the stretch but were unable to spot Spring Hill.
  • The Badgers forced a fifth set with 25-19 win in the fourth set while hitting .306. Montevallo hit just .159.
Set 5
  • Montevallo build an early two-point lead, 4-2, following a 3-0 scoring run that was capped with a Frenette service-ace.
  • Spring Hill worked out of the deficit to even the match, 5-5, following a Montevallo error.
  • In the ensuing points, neither side was able to take more than a one-point lead until a kill from Dishman and a Spring Hill attack error lifted the Falcons ahead 13-10.
  • A kill from Morgan Hoffman and a Badger attack error secure the fifth-set win, 15-11, and the match, 3-2.
  • Montevallo hit .467 in the final set while holding Spring Hill to a .059 clip.
