MONTEVALLO, Ala.– The University of Montevallo Volleyball team improved to 9-4 on the year with a 3-0 victory over Mississippi College, Friday, in the first conference match of the season.
In the home opener, Montevallo handed Mississippi College (10-1, 0-1), its first loss of the season, 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-20).
Montevallo out-hit the Choctaws .273 to .095 in the match to open the conference slate 1-0.
The Falcons controlled the first set 20-16 and fought off the visitors, 25-22 and 25-20 in the second and third sets, respectively.
Senior
Allie Dishman led the Falcons offensively with eight kills while hitting .375.
Jillian Morgan added five kills while hitting .500.
Sav Roys led the way with 14 assists while
Colton Thompson chipped in 12.
Casey Hendrixson anchored the defensive effort with eight digs.

GAME NOTES
- Montevallo recorded 37 kills in the match, compared to just 29 for the Choctaws.
- Dishman paced Montevallo with eight kills while Macy Martin and Aliyah Thompson each added seven.
- Morgan recorded a team-leading .500 hit percentage.
- Dishman and Thompson each registered two service-aces in the match.
- The win over Mississippi College was the sixth sweep of the year and marked the third consecutive win in a conference-opener.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
- Both sides battled to start the contest before the Falcons used an 8-0 run to pull away, 20-14.
- The Choctaws added a pair of points, ending the run, but it wasn't enough as Thompson put the set away with a kill, 25-16.
Set 2
- Mississippi College took a 9-7 advantage before a 3-0 scoring spurt, capped with a Morgan kill, put the Falcons on top 15-13.
- After MC cut into the lead, Morgan Hoffman pushed it back to three, 19-16 with a kill.
- The Choctaws used a 5-2 run to cut the lead to one, 23-22, before a Dishman kill and MC error gave the Falcons a set-two win, 25-22.
Set 3
- Montevallo began the third set on a 10-5 run before a 5-0 run from the Choctaws evened the score, 10-10.
- Down 15-13, the Falcons vaulted in front following a 5-0 run that was capped with a Martin kill to lead 18-15.
- Dishman finished off the sweep with a kill as the Falcons took the win in set three, 25-20.
Up Next: The Falcons will continue the Gulf South Conference slate against West Alabama on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 2 p.m. in Trustmark Arena.
