Esports Begins 2022 Rocket League Season

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - Montevallo had our first esports game of the year this past Sunday, facing off against Missouri Western State University in Rocket League!  After a long 5-game set, we fell 2-3 in Overtime, but nonetheless put on a very strong showing.  Daultyn "Leggo" Bradley, Daylon "kuhno" Drews, and Talal "Tutah" Naser performed very well and all had outstanding performances, Leggo showing a dominant aggressive game with Tutah playing a very strong anchor both defensively to set up some shots to be knocked in by kuhno.

Game 1 was a nailbiter, with the teams trading goals and going into overtime, Montevallo eventually falling 4-3 in OT.  Montevallo quickly retaliated, taking both Game 2 and 3 off of some amazing teamplay and adaptation.  Game 4 went back to Missouri Western, leading us into a final Game 5.  Montevallo lead 2-1 with 40 second in the game, but allowed a tying goal and stalled out to an Overtime.  In Overtime, Montevallo were forced to play defensively off of a very strong offense from Missouri Western, and eventually allowed a goal, falling 3-2.

MVP of the game goes to Tutah, providing a great defense over all 5 games, consistently being in position to disrupt a drive or deny a shot, and being a strong setup for aggressive plays, playing a key point in many important goals for Montevallo.

Montevallo earned its first win of the season with a 3-2 series win over Columubus State on Sept. 11. This series started really intense with an overtime in game 1, won by Montevallo. However, CSU won the next two games, game 3 after bringing it to overtime.

CSU's team showed that they were adept at destroying opponent's cars, which left a lot of them off the field. Montevallo was in a rough spot. Being down 1-2, they were in danger of a reverse sweep. Game 4 was a little closer than we would have liked, however Montevallo's team was able to bring the series to game 5. In game 5, Montevallo quickly brought the score to 2-0, and it looked like they were very dominant until about the 2 minute left mark, where CSU scored 2 goals to tie up the match. Montevallo slammed in two more goals to bring the match to 4-2, securing the series.

The Rocket League team will be back in action on Sept. 18 with another Peach Belt matchup against North Georgia at 3:00 p.m.
