Montevallo Sweeps West Alabama 3-0

MONTEVALLO, Ala.– The University of Montevallo Volleyball team improved to 10-4 on the year with a 3-0 victory over West Alabama, Saturday.
 
In the home match, Montevallo handed West Alabama its sixth consecutive loss, 25-16, 25-14, 25-11.
 
Montevallo out-hit the Tigers .353 to -.013 in the match to improve to 2-0 in GSC play.

The Falcons controlled the first set 25-16 continued its dominance with a 25-14 win in the second and a 25-11 win in the third.  
 
Montevallo recorded their second-best hitting day of the year with 40 kills on 85 attacks and just 10 errors against the visiting Tigers.
 


Macy Martin led the Falcons with 12 kills while hitting a staggering .800. to go along with five digs.

GAME NOTES
 
  • Montevallo recorded 40 kills in the match, compared to just 17 for the Tigers.
  • Martin paced Montevallo with 12 kills while Jillian Morgan added eight.
  • Martin recorded a team-leading .800 hit percentage.
  • Allie Dishman led the Falcons with three service aces and added two solo blocks.
  • Sav Roys had 21 assists to lead the way.
  • Casey Hendrixson anchored the back row with 18 digs in the match.  
HOW IT HAPPENED

Set 1
  • West Alabama opened the first set on a 5-0 run before the Falcons regained control with a 7-0 run to lead, 9-6, following a service ace from Dishman.
  • A 7-0 run down the stretch pushed the Falcons toward the finish line as Jillian Morgan capped the set-win, 25-16, with a kill.
Set 2
  • Montevallo opened the second set on a 10-3 run as Aliyah Thompson added back-to-back kills.
  • Morgan pushed the lead to 17-7 with a kill before the Falcons closed out the set with a win, 25-14.
 
Set 3
  • Montevallo opened the third set, 5-0, and extended the lead to 11, 20-9, following a West Alabama error.
  • Back-to-back kills from Martin secured the set-win, 25-11, and the match, 3-0. 


    Up Next: The Falcons will continue the Gulf South Conference slate against Shorter on the road, Friday, Sept. 23 at 5 p.m.
