ROME, Ga. - The University of Montevallo volleyball team earned its ninth win in a row, defeating Shorter 3-0 on the road, Friday.
With the win, Montevallo improves to 11-4 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
Montevallo trailed early on in each set but found ways to pull out wins in each for the eighth sweep of the year, winning 25-23, 28-26, 25-20.
The Falcons out-hit the Hawks, .234 to .176 and held a 40-36 advantage in kills.
Kamble Frenette's 12 kills and .304 hit percentage led the Falcons.
Casey Hendrixson anchored the defensive with 12 digs while recording her the 1,000
th of her career.

- Montevallo recorded 40 kills in the match and allowed 36 to Shorter.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
- Both sides traded points early on until the Falcons pulled ahead, 6-3, following a kill from Aliyah Thompson.
- A 5-1 run for Shorter gave the Hawks a one-point advantage, 8-7.
- The Hawks used a 5-0 run to take 1 13-8 advantage over the Falcons.
- Down 19-14, Montevallo used a 6-2 run, capped with a Kamble Frenette kill, to cut the deficit to one, 21-20.
- Back-to-back kills from Megan Schram and Macy Martin pushed the Falcons toward the finish line, 24-23, before a Shorter error secured the set-win, 25-23 for Montevallo.
Set 2
- Shorter jumped ahead 7-3 early on before going up 16-12 mid-way through.
- A 6-0 run from the Falcons, capped with an Allie Dishman service ace, propelled Montevallo in front, 18-16.
- Shorter re-gained the lead on a 3-0 run and pushed to set-point, 24-23, before a 3-1 Falcon run gave Montevallo a 26-25 lead.
- Jillian Morgan capped off the set-two win, 28-26.
Set 3
- The third set was a back-and-forth affair until a 3-0 run out the Falcons ahead, 13-11.
- Shorter responded with a 5-0 scoring spurt to lead 17-15.
- The Falcons halted Shorter's attack and outscored the Hawks 10-3 down-the-stretch, to win 25-20 and 3-0 in the match.
