Women's Soccer Moves to 3-1 in GSC Play with 2-1 over Union

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo women's soccer team improved its record to 7-1 with a 3-1 conference record after topping Union 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. The Falcons are now tied for second in the Gulf South Conference standings. 
 
Freshman forward Angelina Rivas scored two early goals to lift the Falcons to a 2-0 lead before halftime. The freshman scored in the 14th minute with a penalty kick before scoring off assists from Kaeri Ward and Espy Sanchez.
 
Freshman goalkeeper Jolie Cazale played the entire 90 minutes of the match with three saves and allowed only one goal.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
11' | Cazale earns her first save of the game after stopping a Union shot.
14' | Rivas scores the first goal of the game with a penalty kick.
25' | Rivas finds the back of the net again with assists by Ward and Sanchez.
32' | Melanie Stevens fires a shot on target but is denied by Union's Rylee Iorio.
49' | Cazale stops another Union shot.
53' | Cazale saves her third shot for the match off the foot of UU's Claire Maxon.
79' | UU's Madison Woolridge cuts the Falcon lead in half with a goal.
 
GAME NOTES
  • The Falcons took the most shots of any game this season with 22 total shots.
  • UM fired seven shots on target with the Bulldogs shooting just four on frame.
  • Montevallo took nine corner kicks (season high) while Union took just three.
  • UU's Iorio saved five shots in the match with Cazale stopping three.
  • Each team once booked once.
