MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo Basketball team dropped a Gulf South Conference contest, 92-83, to West Georgia in Trustmark Arena, Saturday.
Despite a successful first half in which the Falcons led UWG, 42-35, Montevallo shot just 2-of-12 from deep in the second half and were outscored 57-41.
Montevallo built a nine-point lead over the Wolves following a three-pointer from
Braxton Bertolette at the 8:57 mark in the first half.
Aidan Gardiner kept the Falcons in front, 42-35, at the break following an alley-oop, from
Mason Shifflett, at the buzzer.
In the opening minutes of the second half, Bertolette extended the lead to 11 at the free-throw line before a 10-3 West Georgia run made it a four-point game, 49-45 with 15:23 to go. After trading points over the next several minutes, a Wolves three-pointer put UM behind 58-56 at the 10:38 mark following an 8-1 run. Montevallo was unable to re-take the lead the rest of the way, falling 92-83.
Braxton Bertolette led the Falcons with 26 points and scored his 1,000
th-career point at Montevallo in the contest.
With the loss the Falcons are currently 6-8 in the GSC and in a tie for eighth place.

- Bertolette led a group four players in double-figures with 26 points. James McNeil and Aiden Gardiner each added 15 points while Tyler Moore contributed 13.
- UWG outshot the Falcons 47.1 percent to 39.4 percent from the floor and 41.7 percent to 25 percent from three.
- The Wolves outrebounded UM 48-40 while each team totaled 19 offensive boards.
- Berttolette surpassed the 1,000-career point milestone by scoring his 368th point of the season, Saturday. In his previous two seasons at UM, the Fort Collins, Co. native totaled 177 and 461 points, respectively.
