BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Montevallo men's swimming defeated Birmingham Southern, 133-128, on Jan. 21 with eight event wins during the meet.
The Falcons 200-yard medley relay team took the event win with a time of 1:36.71 with a second group of Falcons taking fourth in the event with a time of 1:41.48.
Nicolas Ioannides and
Ray Asmakis both earned podium finishes in the 1000-yard free style. Ioannides took home the gold with a time of 9:59.79 while Asmakis earned third place after posted a time of 10:17.34. Ioannides also added a second-place finish in the 500-yard free after completing the event in 4:55.12.
In the 100-yard backstroke,
Will Mahone blew by the competition, taking first place in the event, with a time of 51.03. His first-place mark was more than two seconds faster than second (53.86). Mahone added a second win to his day with a time of 1:55.06 in the 200-yard backstroke.
Connor Daigle barely edged out the win in the 100-yard breaststroke. The senior grabbed the gold after finishing the race in 1:00.66 with second place coming in just 0.05 seconds behind. Daigle continued his impressive meet with a win in the 200-yard breaststroke after posting a time of 2:13.50.
Sophomore
Aleksei Kolesnikov added to the Falcons win total with a first-place mark of 1:57.25 in the 200-yard butterfly. Kolesnikov also posted a third-place time of 53.81 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle.
Thom Naccarato and
Jimmy Franck posted a pair of podium finishes in the 50-yard freestyle. Naccarato took the event victory with a time of 22.14 seconds with Franck coming in third at 22.50 seconds.
Jack Rogers reached the podium with a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.33 seconds.
Harrison Dorsey was the final Falcons of the day to take home a podium finish after posting a time of 2:00.73 in the 200-yard backstoke.
The field for the day's events was filled by Montevallo, Birmingham-Southern, Milsaps and Bethel. Bethel and Milsaps did not field full teams and therefore were not included in the final scoring of the event.
