Falcons Drop Road Matchup at Delta State, 60-52

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Montevallo women's basketball team dropped a tightly contested game to Delta State, 60-52, on Thursday, Jan. 26.

McCarley Northway and Marisa Snodgrass came out of the gate firing on all cylinders. The duo sparked Montevallo's offense in the first quarter, scoring all 12 of the Falcons' first-quarter points, to take a 12-11 lead going into the second. Northway led the way with seven points on 3-of-5 shooting in her 6:21 on the floor. The Falcons spread the ball around in the second quarter with Leisha Steger, Shyan Flack and Isabelle Grimes scoring a bucket each to lift Montevallo to a 21-18 lead at the half. Northway led all scorers in the first half with nine points on an impressive 4-of-7 shooting. Out of the halftime break, Delta State found a rhythm on offense, going 6-for-13 from the field and 90 percent at the free throw line. The Falcons got to the foul line 14 times in the third quarter and knocked down nine free throws for a 64.3 percent mark. Snodgrass opened the second half on a tear with a team-high eight points in the third on 66.6 percent shooting from the floor. The Falcons trailed by two heading into the battle that was the fourth quarter. Neither side was willing to give an inch to the other with a total of four jump ball situations in the quarter. DSU opened its largest lead of the night so far, 46-40, after a pair of made free throws from Alanna Smith. A pair of back-to-back threes from Flack and Snodgrass tied the game at 46 with 5:14 to go. Sharp free throw shooting from the Lady Statesmen down the stretch proved to be the difference as Montevallo couldn't cash in on scoring chances late in the game.

Snodgrass was the top scorer in the game with 18 points to go along with four assists, two steals, two rebounds, and a block. Northway finished the game with 11 points on 4-of-11 shooting with six boards one dime and a block.
