HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Montevallo women's soccer slid to 5-3-2 overall and 2-2-2 in Gulf South Conference play after falling to Alabama Huntsville, 2-1, on the road, Sunday.
The Chargers looked to set the pace early with the first shot on goal of the game forcing senior goalkeeper
Emily Hounsell to make their first save of the game in the 17
th minute. On the counterattack, sophomore
Angelina Rivas looked to open the scoring with Montevallo's first shot on goal of the day but was denied by the UAH keeper.
In the 35
th minute, the Falcons broke into the scoring column with a solo effort from senior defender
Alea Taube, her third goal of the season.
Just before the half, UAH managed to knot the game at 1-1 with a goal of its own with just 1:18 left.
In the first minute out of the break, freshman midfielder
Raylene Alcaraz looked to regain control for the Falcons before her shot on goal was turned aside.
UAH forced Hounsell's second save of the afternoon before eventually finding the mark to go up 2-1 in the 55
thminute.
Montevallo saw a golden opportunity to score in the 61
st minute but a Falcon penalty kick missed the mark.
The Falcons fired three-consecutive shots around the 70-minute mark with
Miranda Fragoso finding the woodwork and
Kieran Burkey having one blocked and sending a shot just high.
Montevallo saw one final opportunity to score with a corner in the closing seconds, but time expired before the Falcons could convert.
