MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men's and women's swimming teams are set to open the 2023-24 season on Saturday, Oct. 14 against Millsaps College in the SAC Natatorium.
 
Both programs enter their fifth season at the university and Head Coach Aaron Mahaney features a group of nine seniors on the men's side and five for the women.
 
"Going into our fifth season we are looking forward to getting better and better," said Mahaney. "We are looking to move up in the conference and our main goal is to send multiple swimmers to the NCAA's."
 
Last season, Will Mahone earned national recognition for the Falcons for the first time in program history. His 1:46.21 finish in the 200-yard backstroke at nationals marked the first time the program has earned points nationally. Mahone earned the Falcons a 29^th place finish in amongst national leaders.
 
"It is a crazy experience," said Mahone. "I stood on the pool deck and just took it all in. To stand there at a historic pool where Michael Phelps has swam and other big name swimmers made their name was exciting and something I'll never forget."
 
For the women's team, they finished fourth in the New South Conference Championship where Danielle Davis set personal bests in the 50 and 100 free and in the 50 and 100 back.
 
"I would say each year we have improved," said Davis. "We are going to keep improving, we have some explosive freshman coming in who are going to help the team, and we are pumped for the season."
 
Both teams start the season at home against Millsaps College on Oct. 14 then take to the road on Oct. 21 to take on Berry College at Rome, Ga. The Falcons will then compete in the Sewanee Invitational on Oct.27 through Oct. 28.
 
Montevallo will then come home and welcome in Birmingham-Southern on Nov. 4 to start the new month then will compete against the West Florida Argonauts on Nov. 8 to open the conference season.
 
In December, Montevallo swim with compete at the Delta State Christmas Invitational on Dec. 9 through Dec. 13 in Cleveland, MS.
 
To start the new year, the Falcons will be at the SAC Natatorium for a home meet against the Statesman of Delta State on Jan. 6. Montevallo will end the regular season with three road trips against Henderson State on Jan. 12, at Ouachita Baptist on Jan. 13, and at Birmingham-Southern on Jan. 20.
 
Montevallo will compete in the New South Conference Championship on Feb. 20 through Feb. 24 in Cleveland, MS.
 
The NCAA Championships are scheduled for Mar. 12 through Mar. 16 in Geneva, OH.
