Falcons Shutout Union, 2-0, On the Road

JACKSON, Tenn. – Montevallo women's soccer picked up its seventh clean sheet of 2023 in a 2-0 victory over Union on Friday night.

The Falcons soared to an early lead after a pickpocket play from Angelina Rivas led to a Falcon corner when Rivas drew a Montevallo penalty kick in the seventh minute. Graduate student Kaeri Ward would beat the Union goalkeeper moments later for her fourth goal of the season and a 1-0 Montevallo lead.

The Lady Bulldogs looked to equalize minutes later with back-to-back corners, but the Falcon defense turned Union away each time.

Montevallo held on to its lead throughout the first half despite several dangerous UU chances, taking a 1-0 lead into the half.

Out of the break, the Montevallo attack had its foot on the gas with a Raylene Alcaraz shot on goal in the 53rdminute before a Union counterattack forced Emily Hounsell's first save of the evening in the 57th minute.

The freshman frontline of Isabel Dillehay and Lainey Farabaugh fired back-to-back Falcon shots on goal before the duo hooked up for Farabaugh's third goal of 2023 and Dillehay's first assist in the 72nd minute.

Moments later, Ward nearly had a second goal of the night but found the left woodwork just before Farabaugh found the right post in the 77th minute.

A final shot on goal from Rivas in the 88th minute punctuated Montevallo's 2-0 victory over the Lady Bulldogs.
