JACKSON, Tenn. – Montevallo women's soccer picked up its seventh clean sheet of 2023 in a 2-0 victory over Union on Friday night.
The Falcons soared to an early lead after a pickpocket play from
Angelina Rivas led to a Falcon corner when Rivas drew a Montevallo penalty kick in the seventh minute. Graduate student
Kaeri Ward would beat the Union goalkeeper moments later for her fourth goal of the season and a 1-0 Montevallo lead.
The Lady Bulldogs looked to equalize minutes later with back-to-back corners, but the Falcon defense turned Union away each time.
Montevallo held on to its lead throughout the first half despite several dangerous UU chances, taking a 1-0 lead into the half.
Out of the break, the Montevallo attack had its foot on the gas with a
Raylene Alcaraz shot on goal in the 53
rdminute before a Union counterattack forced
Emily Hounsell's first save of the evening in the 57
th minute.
The freshman frontline of
Isabel Dillehay and
Lainey Farabaugh fired back-to-back Falcon shots on goal before the duo hooked up for Farabaugh's third goal of 2023 and Dillehay's first assist in the 72
nd minute.
Moments later, Ward nearly had a second goal of the night but found the left woodwork just before Farabaugh found the right post in the 77
th minute.
A final shot on goal from Rivas in the 88
th minute punctuated Montevallo's 2-0 victory over the Lady Bulldogs.
