Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Falcons Clinch GSC Championship Berth With 2-0 Win

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – For just the second time since 2014, Montevallo women's soccer defeated RV Mississippi College, 2-1, to secure a place in the 2023 Gulf South Conference Tournament.
 
Mississippi College started its attack early with the Lady Choctaws taking the first shot of the game in the 20th minute. MC forced Emily Hounsell's first save of the night at the 21:18 mark to keep the game in a scoreless tie.
 
Montevallo nearly found the first goal of the evening around the 30th minute with four-consecutive Falcon shots including a shot on goal from Madeline Milby in the 30th minute.
 
The Falcons ended the first half with a pair of shots, sending the game into the half with a 0-0 score.
 
Montevallo drew the MC keeper out of the goal which set up a Bailey Raphelt pass to Angelina Rivas for her second goal of the season. Falcons gained control of the match in the 47th minute.
 
UM didn't let off the gas with three-straight shots capped off by another Rivas shot on frame in the 55th minute.
 
The Lady Choctaws nearly found the equalizer in the 57th minute but the outstretched right hand of Hounsell denied an MC goal.
 
Just a few minutes after her first goal, Rivas lifted the Falcons to a 2-0 lead with 30 minutes to go off a pass from Milby.
 
A final Hounsell save in the 82nd minute secured Montevallo's 2-0 victory and a seed in next weekend's Gulf South Conference Tournament.
