CLINTON, Miss. – In the first of a two-game road trip in Mississippi, the Falcons used 32-point advantage in the paint to propel the team to a 4-1 start in league play with a 70-60 win over Mississippi College on Friday night.
The Falcons opened the game on a 6-0 run in the first 2:31 to jump out to an early six-point lead that was quickly tied by the Choctaws after back-to-back threes. With MC leading 12-8 with 4:04 on the clock,
Lia Edwards to it end-to-end to trim the lead to two before a
Savannah Cook triple gave Montevallo its first lead in nearly four minutes. With a pair of buckets to end the first, MC took a 16-13 lead into the first intermission.
Freshman forward
Ramie Reid scored a quick six points in the paint to open the second quarter and knot the game a 21-21 with 7:13 to play. A
Marisa Snodgrass floater gave the Falcons a two-point lead at the media timeout with the Falcons shooting 5-fo-6 to start the second. Montevallo struggled to find points after the media timeout with MC regaining control, 27-26, with three minutes to go. Montevallo scored six points in the final 1:15 of the first half with A.K. Eastman knocking down the fadeaway jumper at the buzzer to give the Falcons a 32-29 lead heading into the break.
Montevallo opened the second half on a 13-0 run, capped by another bucket in the paint from Reid, to open a 12-point advantage with 8:35 on the clock. The Falcons added five more points in transition with a
Cali Smallwood three highlighting Montevallo's fast break. Mississippi College closed the gap to nine points following a 12-4 run in the final four minutes of the third quarter.
Following a pair of MC free throws, Montevallo's
Isabel Grimes and Reid stretched the Falcons' lead back to 13 in the opening three minutes of the fourth. Montevallo's veteran guard duo of Snodgrass and Eastman combined for eight of the Falcons' final ten points en route to Montevallo's 70-60 win over MC.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST | Montevallo opened the game with a hot start but cooled down by the end of the first, shooting just 26 percent from the field. Cook and Smallwood led the way with three points each.
2ND | The Falcons owned the paint in the second quarter to hold MC scoreless while added 16 points under the basket. Reid caught fire in the quarter with a 3-for-3 mark from the field.
3RD | Montevallo opened its largest lead of the night with a 19-point lead midway through the third. With 14 more points in the paint and eight from Smallwood, Montevallo took a 56-47 lead into the fourth.
4TH | The Falcons secured the victory with another double-digit total in the paint.
GAME NOTES
- The Falcons dominated the post, outscoring the Choctaws 46-18.
- On the break, Montevallo added a 10-point advantage with a 16-6 mark.
- Ramie Reid finished the night with a 16-point effort on 7-of-10 shooting with four rebounds while her counterpart Cali Smallwood scored 13 points to go along with seven boards.
- Isabel Grimes led the Falcons with 11 boards while dishing out eight assists to lead the team in that category.
