Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

WBB Falls to Union on Senior Day

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo women's basketball team honored its graduating class on a day where the Falcons fell to Union, 81-60.

Montevallo's offense struggled to get a rhythm going against the Lady Bulldogs' full-court pressure in the first quarter. After a back and forth first six minutes, Union began to pull away as the Falcons' shooters couldn't find the mark. Montevallo shot just 23.5 percent (4-for-17) in the first quarter to trail 20-10 heading into the second.

The shooting woes ended abruptly when Montevallo shot an impressive 7-for-10 from the field in the second quarter. Anna Katherine Eastman knocked down a pair of threes to lead the team with six points in the quarter while the team shot 5-of-7 from three-point range. The Falcons took the quarter 20-19 but trailed 39-30 at the halftime break.

Coming out of the locker room, both teams ramped up on the defensive end with the Falcons forcing seven turnovers in the third quarter. Both teams traded either buckets or turnovers until Montevallo went on a 5-0 run to cut the Lady Bulldogs lead to just six. A 7-3 run from Union to end the third quarter stretched the lead back to 10 as UU took a 55-45 lead heading into the final stanza.

The Lady Bulldogs full-court press proved to be too much for the Falcons to overcome in the fourth quarter. Montevallo ended the game with a 35.7 percent mark from the field while Union closed the game with a 58.3 percent clip. Union took the final quarter 26-15 and the game 81-60.

A trio of Falcons scored double-digit points with Shyan Flack and Marisa Snodgrass leading the team with 11 points each. Senior Michaella Edwards was the third Falcon to reach double figures with 10 points on 4-of-8 from the field. Flack finished the game just one rebound shy of a double-double with nine boards.

Micahella Edwards, Shyan Flack, McCarley Northway, Marisa Snodgrass and Sara Strohmeyer were the five seniors honored during the pregame festivities.
