CSU added to its 5-2 lead with two unanswered runs until, in the fifth inning, Derrick hit an infield single with two runners on to trim the advantage to 7-3.

An inning later, Sydnee Reaves reached on a single up the gut and, in the very next at-bat, Shelby Sloan brought her home with a two-run bomb to left field that sliced the lead to 7-5.

Another pair of runs for CSU in the sixth and three strikeouts from Montevallo in the seventh halted the Falcons comeback effort and sealed the game at 9-5.
