Falcons Take Down Tuskegee 11-1 Wednesday

TUSKEGEE, Ala. – In a midweek matchup on the road in Tuskegee, Alabama, the University of Montevallo baseball team defeated the Golden Tigers 11-1 in seven innings to move to 6-1 overall on the year.

Wednesday's contest was the first true road game of the year for Head Coach Chandler Rose's 2023 squad who are on a three-game win streak.

Montevallo opened the scoring early on Wednesday afternoon at Washington Field when Sam Kuchinski blasted his first homer of the season and scored Barry Eiseman to give Montevallo a 2-0 advantage.

The Falcons' pitching staff held Tuskegee scoreless in the first two frames before the offense added a trio of runs in the third. An infield single from Reed Latimer loaded the bases before Eiseman scored on a passed ball. An ensuing RBI ground-out from Asa Awbrey plated Kuchinski and a bases loaded walk from Evan Liddie scored Latimer to cap the inning and put UM ahead 5-0.

Pitching continued to be dominant for the falcons as Chris Foster entered out the pen in the fourth, faced three batters and struck out the side.

Montevallo's best scoring frame came in the fifth when the side plated six runs. To begin, a bases-loaded wild pitch scored Awbrey before a bases-loaded walk from Aiden Cloud scored Alex Langford. With the bases still loaded, Khalid Collymore was hit-by-pitch to score Christian Kahaller. Next, Zen Hiatt singled to left field, driving in Will Pratt. Cloud came home on the play when an error was made by the Golden Tigers' catcher. Another wild-pitch pushed Hiatt to second and scored Collymore to round out the scoring as Montevallo led 11-0.

Both sides were held scoreless until the bottom of the ninth when Tuskegee scored its lone run on a bases-loaded walk.

After giving up a hit to the home side in the first inning, UM's bullpen held Tuskegee without a hit until the final frame and struckout 11.
