Montevallo Falls Short Against Embry-Riddle

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – University of Montevallo men's lacrosse fell to Embry-Riddle, 18-15, on a cold Friday night. 
 
The Falcons fell behind quickly with an ERAU goal scored just 40 seconds into the game. Jackson Klewchuk and Trevayne Hunter hooked up for Montevallo's first goal of the night to tie the game at one all. After another goal from the Eagles, Matthew Boas found the back of the net off a pass from Scott Friant to knot the game at two. Embry-Riddle finished the first quarter with three unanswered goals to take a 5-2 lead into the second. 
 
The second quarter began with two back-to-back goals from Montevallo. First, Boas got on the board for the second time of the night off a pass from Hunter. Then, just 26 seconds later, Hunter scored on a man-up opportunity to cut the lead to just one goal. Two quick-fire goals from the Eagles left Montevallo trailing 7-4 until Connor Frederick and Zach Reed matched ERAU's goals. After Embry-Riddle stretched the lead to 8-6, Montevallo fired off three unanswered goals in just 59 seconds to take the lead, 9-8. Embry-Riddle took control of the game with a trio of goals in the final two minutes. 
 
Montevallo answered the bell once again and battle for three goals to open the second half. Hunter found the mark on a man-up chance with another goal from the junior. Then, less than a minute after Hunter's goal, Reed was a one-man show with an unassisted goal to take the lead at 12-11. A 2-1 run from Embry-Riddle at the end of the third tied the game at 13-13 heading into the final quarter. 
 
Boas completed the hat-trick with a goal at the 12:48 mark before ERAU added a pair of goals. Hunter scored the final goal of the game for Montevallo with an unassisted score at the 5:52 mark. The fourth quarter saw Montevallo score just two goals to ERAU's five. The three-goal differential in the quarter proved to be the difference in the game giving Montevallo its second loss of the season, 18-15.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
1st | Embry-Riddle took the first quarter, 5-2, after a back and forth first five minutes.
2nd | In the second, both teams exploded for a combined 13 goals. Hunter led all scorers in the quarter with three goals, two of which were unassisted.
3rd | Montevallo opened the second half with three-straight goals to take the lead at 12-11. Klewchuk tied the game at 13-13 heading into the fourth after two goals from ERAU.
4th | Embry-Riddle's five fourth-quarter goals proved to be too much for the Falcons to overcome. 
 
GAME NOTES
  • Hunter scored a career-high seven goals on nine shots with one assist for eight total points. 
  • Scott Friant facilitated Montevallo's offense with a game-high three assists. 
  • Montevallo lost the turnover battle, 24-18. 
  • Alex Egorshin led all keepers in the game with eight saves.
