MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo men's lacrosse team moved to 2-2 on the season with a 17-9 win over Saint Leo on Sunday, Feb. 19.
Both sides got out to a bit of a slow start in the first ten minutes of the game until
Scott Friant connected with
Trevayne Hunter to break the ice and give the Falcons a 1-0 lead at the 5:47 mark. An SLU goal in the last three minutes knotted the game at 1-1 after the first.
The second quarter began with two quick goals from the Lions to take a 3-1 advantage in the first two minutes of the quarter. Montevallo answered with a trio of unanswered goals capped by an unassisted goal from
Jackson Klewchuk to take the lead back at 4-3. Saint Leo found the mark with 4:10 seconds left in the half to tie the goal at four all heading into the locker-room.
Montevallo came out of the half with new life as the offense clicked for a massive eight goals in the third quarter.
Matthew Boas tied the score at 5-5 with a goal at the 13:36 mark off a pass from Hunter.
Connor Frederick and Hunter added a pair of goals to give the Falcons a 7-5 advantage. After a Saint Leo goal at 10:48,
Chaiton Williams scored his first goal of the season with the assist credited to Frederick. A trio of goals from
Luke Hennebaul,
Zach Reed, and Klewchuk, along with two SLU goals, to close the quarter lifted Montevallo to a four-goal lead heading into the fourth, 12-8.
Hunter opened up the fourth-quarter scoring with a shot the hit the back of the net in the first three minutes. Saint Leo scored its final goal of the afternoon with 10:07 on the clock before the Falcons went on a four-goal run to close the game. Williams got on the board again with 7:22 left to make the score 14-9, Montevallo. Hunter added his second goal in the quarter before
Morgan Trites' and
Scott Friant's goals gave Montevallo a 17-9 victory.
