INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Montevallo men's lacrosse team fell to No. 7 Indianapolis, 12-4, with a stellar performance from freshman goalkeeper
Alex Egorshin on Saturday, Feb. 25.
Egorshin began his career-high day with a save at the 13:06 mark in the first quarter. UIndy struck first with a goal off a Montevallo turnover but, the Falcons bounced back quickly when
Trevayne Hunter scored off a no-look pass from
Jackson Klewchuk. On the following faceoff, UIndy scored just seven seconds later. Midfielder
James Godfrey found the mark for his first goal of the season with a long stick shot at the 9:49 mark to knot the game at two.
After a pair of unanswered goals from the Greyhounds, Hunter ended a six and a half minute scoring drought for the Falcons. An added goal from UIndy left the score at 5-3 after one.
A quick goal from the Greyhounds left Montevallo in a three-goal hole but the Falcons's defense stood strong with three-straight saves from Egorshin. A costly Montevallo turnover led to a four-goal lead for UIndy. Junior
Jackson Klewchuk ended the Greyhounds scoring run with a goal at the 2:37 mark in the first half. Egorhsin's save with 16 seconds left in the half brought his first half total to 17 saves.
After trailing 7-4 at the half, Montevallo's offense created opportunities to score but Indianapolis' defense held the Falcons scoreless in the quarter. Three added goals from Indianapolis left Montevallo trailing 10-4 going into the fourth.
A pair of UIndy goals and nine fourth quarter turnovers from Montevallo sealed the game at 12-4.
Egorshin added 11 second half saves to finish the game with a career-high 28 saves. His 28 saves rank second among all goaltending performances in NCAA Div. II and is a new Montevallo single-game record.
