Falcons Fly Past Christian Brothers, 81-64

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – University of Montevallo women's basketball moved to 11-9 in conference play after leading wire-to-wire in an 81-64 victory over Christian Brothers.
 
The Falcons raced out to an early lead behind the stelar play of Senior forward McCarley Northway. The Somerville, Ala. native scored eight of Montevallo's 19 first quarter points on 4-of-6 from the floor. Shyan Flack dominated the boards in the first quarter with a game-high six rebounds. Montevallo started the game with a strong post presence after scoring 12 points in the paint in the first ten minutes. 
 
Montevallo stretched its seven-point lead out to 20 in the second quarter with the offense flowing through multiple Falcons. Anna Katherine Eastman lead all Falcons with six points on 2-for-3 from range while Northway continued her hot start with five points. A host of Falcons got on the board in the second quarter as Montevallo out-scored CBU 26-13 to take a 45-25 lead into the locker room. 
 
Michaella Edwards was the bright spot on the offensive end of the floor with a team-high six points on 2-for-3 in the third quarter. While Edwards lead the scoring charge, Marisa Snodgrass facilitated the Falcons offense with a game-high three assists after the break. Montevallo led the Bucs 66-42 heading into the final stanza. 
 
The fourth quarter was much of the same for Montevallo with the Falcons opening a 26-point lead at the 8:12 mark. The Falcons offense slowed as the game wound down, but freshman Katie Moore and Edwards weren't finished yet, scoring four points each. CBU took the final quarter 22-15 but the Falcons earned the victory, 81-64. 
 
Northway and Edwards lead the way for Montevallo with 13 points apiece. Flack would not be denied on the glass with a game-high nine boards while Snodgrass recorded a game-best seven assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
1ST | Montevallo raced out to an early lead with a dominant 12 points in the paint while Northway led all scorers with eight points. 
2ND | The Falcons doubled CBU's score in the second with a 26-13 advantage. With the scoring spread out, Montevallo shot an impressive 8-for-16 in the quarter with a 4-for-6 mark from deep. 
3RD | Montevallo shot a solid 44.4 percent (8-for-18) from the field with a whopping 16 second chance points off seven offensive rebounds.
4TH | Edwards and Moore led the way for the Falcons with four points in the quarter on the way to an 81-64 win. 
 
GAME NOTES 
  • UM cashed in on CBU's turnovers with 26 points off the Bucs 22 giveaways. 
  • The Falcons dominated the paint, outscoring CBU 36-18. 
  • The second chance points were one-sided with Montevallo scoring a massive 28 points off 18 offensive boards. 
  • The Falcons moved the ball well with 16 assists to only nine turnovers. 
  • Montevallo recorded a total of 15 steals with Snodgrass grabbing five steals.
