MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo softball team posted a pair of wins in a doubleheader with Shorter on Saturday, March 11.
GAME ONE
After Shorter left one on the top of the first, Montevallo's bats exploded to score five runs. Senior
Taylor Robinson broke the ice with a two-run bomb just before
Alisha Lanyon went yard in the next at-bat.
Lauren Higginbotham advanced to third after a single and double from
Ellie Derrick and, with a pair of sacrifice flies from
Sydnee Reaves and
Lily Stone, scored the fourth and fifth runs of the inning.
After a 1-2-3 second from starting pitcher
Brittany Crowson, Shorter bounced back with a three-run shot in the third.
Montevallo answered the bell with another five-run inning in the bottom of the third. With two runners on, Stone hit an RBI double before
Georgia Hughes brought home the seventh and eighth runs of the game. With Hughes still on first,
Shelby Sloan blasted a two-run shot to give Montevallo a 10-3 lead.
The Hawks battled back with three runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to trim the lead down to just three.
UM stranded three in the sixth to put Shorter down to its last three outs. In the top of the seventh, SU hit a pair of homers but the Falcons defense finished the game with three straight-outs. Montevallo took the game 10-9 with Crowson earning the win and
Taylor Lloyd credited with the save.

GAME NOTES
- Montevallo scored 10 runs on 13 hits with 10 RBI and a trio of home runs while Shorter plated nine runs on 11 hits with nine RBI and three home runs.
- Shelby Sloan led the Falcons' offense with a .750 batting average with two RBI, two runs and a homer.
- Taylor Robinson, Lily Stone, and Georgia Hughes drove in a pair of runs while Robinson and Alisha Lanyon added one home run apiece.
GAME TWO
With each side getting one hit in the first and a three-up, three-down second from
Taylor Lloyd, the Falcons' bats erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the second. Following an
Ellie Derrick double,
Sydnee Reaves drove one to deep center field for the freshman's sixth home run of the season.
Georgia Hughes reached on a single and was brought home in the next at-bat with a tripe from
Maddie Taylor. An RBI single from
Shelby Sloan and another single from
Taylor Robinson brought
Alisha Lanyon up to bat with two runners on. The sophomore blasted her second home run of the day to give Montevallo a 7-0 advantage.
Lloyd gave up a single hit with a strikeout in the third to keep her shutout appearance going.
An error from Shorter scored
Lily Stone and Reaves to bring the run rule into effect at 9-0. Robinson added a two-RBI double to her stat line before
Lauren Hamby drove Robinson in to score the fifth run of the inning and give Montevallo a 12-0 lead.
Lloyd's impressive outing continued with a second three-up, three-down inning in the fourth.
In the bottom of the inning,
Maddie Taylor doubled to left for an RBI for Montevallo's 14
th run of the day. Lloyd polished off the Falcons' 14-0 win with three outs in the fifth.
