SALISBURY, N.C. – The Montevallo men's lacrosse team topped Catawba College, 10-8, behind 23 saves from
Alex Egorshin on Saturday, Mar. 4.
Senior
Chaiton Williams broke the ice with a goal just 31 seconds into the game to put the Falcons up, 1-0. Following two unanswered from Catawba, Frederick pulled the score back to even before
Morgan Trites connected with
Coleman Hargis to give Montevallo a 3-2 advantage after the first.
Frederick found the back of the net for the second time of the day at the 13:23 mark in the second to lift UM to a two-goal lead. Catawba sliced the lead in half at 12:19 in the second but
Jackson Klewchuk slammed the door with an unassisted goal to make it 5-3. A pair of back-to-back goals from Catawba left the game tied, 5-5, heading into the break.
Out of the break, Frederick converted his third goal of the day less than a minute into the second half.
Trevayne Hunter put his name in the stat sheet with a goal at the 11:18 mark to put the Falcons up 7-5. Catawba rattled off two-straight goals before
Zach Laberge found the mark on a man-up opportunity. Montevallo led 8-7 heading into the fourth.
The Falcons jumped up to a two-goal lead three minutes into the fourth off a
Ryan Andrews goal at the 12:57 mark. Catawba began to mount a comeback after a goal with 5:32 remaining until Williams found the mark to give the Falcons a two-goal cushion with 2:54 to go. After missed shots from Catawba down the stretch, Montevallo took the victory, 10-8.
Egorshin finished his afternoon with 23 saves on 43 shots-faced with only eight goals allowed for a .742 save percentage. The freshman leads the Peach Belt in saves per game with 14.57 per contest while also leading the conference with a .600 save percentage.
