BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Montevallo men's lacrosse team grabbed its third-consecutive win with a 17-10 victory over Lees-McRae on the road Monday.
The Falcons jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead after
Connor Frederick,
Trevayne Hunter, and
Matthew Boas found the mark just three minutes apart. Two-time Peach Belt Player of the Week
Alex Egorshin notched his first save of the afternoon at the 11:32 mark in the first. LMC's goal with 5:14 to play ended the Falcons run before
Jackson Klewchuk added a man-up goal and Hunter scored his second of the day off a rebound from the post. After one, Montevallo led, 5-1, and had outshot the Bobcats 16-7 with a 10-5 mark in shots on goal.
Montevallo opened up the game with six second-quarter goals while shutting LMC out in the quarter. To get things started,
Zach Laberge found the mark off a pass from
Morgan Trites at the 14:15 mark. Klewchuk weaved through defenders for an unassisted goal to lift UM to a 7-1 lead. In the next 1:33, the Falcons scored three goals from Frederick, Hunter and
Nick Givens.
Zach Reed capped off the first half with a goal at the 1:46 mark to give Montevallo its 11-1 halftime lead. The Falcons fired 22 shots in the quarter while holding LMC to just three.
The Falcons dominant first half was led by three goals from Hunter while
Will Sommer headed the defense with two caused turnovers and four ground balls.
Gerry York was solid in the faceoff circle, going 7-10 in the first 30 minutes.
The third quarter was much more competitive with LMC scoring the first two goals of the half before Trites found the mark on a man-up opportunity with the assist going to
Scott Friant. LMC rattled off two more ahead of
Zach Reed's goal and
Caden Chalut's back-to-back goals, his first two of the season.
Montevallo took a 15-5 lead into the fourth before Lees-McRae went on a 5-1 run to close the gap to 16-10.
Connor Ferguson added the final punctuation mark to the game with a goal with just 3:40 to go to seal Montevallo's 17-10 win.
