MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo softball team dropped a pair of games to the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Saturday, Mar. 4.
GAME ONE
Montevallo's defense got out to a sluggish start with two back-to-back UAH hits to lead off the day. Two batters later, a critical error from the Falcons scored the first two runs of the ball game.
The Falcons stranded two runners in the next two at-bats, heading into the third trailing 2-0. The Chargers plated three runs in the top of the third to go up 5-0 on Montevallo.
With
Taylor Lloyd in the circle, the Falcons allowed just one hit in the fourth and fifth innings. But the Falcons still struggled at the plate, with three-straight outs in each inning.
UAH scored four runs in the top of the sixth to take a 9-0 lead to give Montevallo just three outs to make up the difference. A lead-off double from
Shelby Sloan gave the Falcons a spark. A pair of hard-hit infield ground balls left Montevallo with just three strikes. With
Bentlee Stiner pinch running,
Lauren Higginbotham drove in the first run of the day for Montevallo with a single into left center. A final ground out left Montevallo with a 9-1 loss in six innings.

GAME NOTES

GAME TWO
Montevallo trailed 3-0 early after a first-inning home run and an RBI single from UAH. The Falcons answered quickly with a double from
Lauren Higginbotham that scored
Sydnee Reaves and
Shelby Sloan. A two-run shot from
Ellie Derrick in the next at-bat gave Montevallo its first lead of the day, 4-3.
With the same score in the bottom of the second, Sloan hit her fifth homer of the season to lift the Falcons to a 5-3 advantage.
The third inning was not so kind to Montevallo as UAH rattled off six runs in the inning to retake the lead, 9-5.
The Chargers added three runs in the sixth and another in the seven to go up 13-5 and leave Montevallo to its final outs. With no baserunners in the seventh, the Falcons fell, 13-5.
