Falcons Fall to UAH in Conference-Opening Doubleheader

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo softball team dropped a pair of games to the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Saturday, Mar. 4.

GAME ONE
Montevallo's defense got out to a sluggish start with two back-to-back UAH hits to lead off the day. Two batters later, a critical error from the Falcons scored the first two runs of the ball game.

The Falcons stranded two runners in the next two at-bats, heading into the third trailing 2-0. The Chargers plated three runs in the top of the third to go up 5-0 on Montevallo.

With Taylor Lloyd in the circle, the Falcons allowed just one hit in the fourth and fifth innings. But the Falcons still struggled at the plate, with three-straight outs in each inning.

UAH scored four runs in the top of the sixth to take a 9-0 lead to give Montevallo just three outs to make up the difference. A lead-off double from Shelby Sloan gave the Falcons a spark. A pair of hard-hit infield ground balls left Montevallo with just three strikes. With Bentlee Stiner pinch running, Lauren Higginbotham drove in the first run of the day for Montevallo with a single into left center. A final ground out left Montevallo with a 9-1 loss in six innings.
