Montevallo Takes Down UAH, 8-7

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo softball team won its first conference contest of the season with an 8-7 win over Alabama Huntsville in the third and final game of the series.

After UAH stranded two runners in the first, the Falcons' offense got the bats going with a lead-off single from Shelby Sloan. Following a walk from Alisha Lanyon, Lauren Higginbotham blasted a three-run shot to give Montevallo an early 3-0 lead.

The Chargers brought the score back to even with two runs in the second and another in the third. After Montevallo left a runner on in the third, UAH took its first lead of the game with a two RBI single in the fourth.

The bottom of the inning came up all Montevallo as the Falcons scored three runs to go up 6-5. Following a Georgia Hughes single, a base hit to left center from Maddie Taylor and an error from the Chargers' centerfielder scored Hughes. Two batters later, Taylor Robinson went yard for her seventh homerun of the season to put Montevallo in front.

With Taylor Lloyd in the circle, Montevallo got three-straight outs in the fifth on the defensive side before Sydnee Reaves hit a two-run shot that lifted the Falcons to its total of eight runs.

Montevallo walked a run home in the sixth to cut the lead in half and, with a quick sixth from Montevallo, left the Chargers with just three outs before a Falcon victory.

UAH homered in the top of the seventh to give the bats some life but the Falcons defense held strong and ended the game with an 8-7 win.
