Falcons Drop Game Three to UAH, 8-5

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo baseball team snapped a 12-game win-streak with an 8-5 loss to UAH, Sunday.

Montevallo fell behind early in the Sunday slate and were to come back from a five-run deficit in the seventh.

UAH opened the day with a three-run homer in the top of the first inning to jump ahead of UM, 3-0. The Falcons responded in the bottom half of the frame with an RBI single from Reed Latimer that scored Jake Smallwood, making it a 3-1 game.

The string of scoring frames continued in the top of the second as UAH added its fourth run of the game on an RBI base hit.

The pitching staffs for both sides held the game scoreless over the next three innings. Luke Mitchell stepped to the plate in the bottom of the sixth and delivered a two-run homer to left to trim the deficit to one, 4-3.

Two homers by the Chargers in the ensuing frame pushed the lead back to five, 8-3. Reed Latimer gave the Falcons life in the bottom of the eighth when he hit a two-run bomb to make it an 8-5 game, but it wasn't enough as the Falcons dropped its first GSC contest of the year.
