COLUMBUS, Ga. – The No. 8/10 ranked Falcons dropped a mid-week matchup to No. 3/6 Columbus State 4-0 on the road in Columbus, Georgia, Wednesday.
Montevallo fell behind in the bottom of the second inning, when the Cougars plated its first run on a fielder's choice. The lead grew for Columbus State to 3-0 in the bottom of the third with a two-run homer.
A pair of hits from
Luke Mitchell and
Alex Langford in the top of the fifth pushed Mitchell into scoring position but the visitors were unable to take advantage.
In the bottom of the seventh, a solo homer by CSU made it a 4-0 game.
Montevallo went three up three down in the top of the eighth before
Jake O'Connell sad down three Cougars as the Falcons entered the ninth inning behind 4-0.
Columbus State held off a Falcons comeback in the ninth as UM dropped its first road game of the year, 4-0.

GAME NOTES
- Alex Langford led Montevallo from the plate as he finished 2-for-3. UM totaled just four hits in the contest.
- Trey Felker earned the start on the mound and struck out seven batters through five and a third innings pitched.
- This is the first game the Falcons have been shutout this season.
