PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Montevallo softball team split a doubleheader with West Florida with four Falcon home runs on April 1.
GAME ONE
Montevallo bounced back from a loss on Friday night with a 9-8 win to kick off the split bill against the Argos.
The Falcons took an early 1-0 lead when right fielder
Georgia Hughes singled through the right side with two runners on in the top of the second. West Florida answered with a four-run bottom half to flip the score to 4-1.
In the next Falcon at-bat, freshman catcher
Lily Stone's second home run of her career drove in a walked
Taylor Robinson to trim the lead down to one. A three-run bomb from
Alisha Lanyon two batters later lifted Montevallo to a 6-4 after the top of the third.
Montevallo piled on a seventh run in the fourth when
Bentlee Stiner scored off a
Lauren Higginbotham RBI single.
After the Falcon pitching staff held off the Argos in the bottom of the fourth, Montevallo took a 9-4 lead in the top of the fifth. With two runners in scoring position,
Shelby Sloan's infield single drove both of Montevallo's fifth inning runs.
West Florida plated two runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut Montevallo's lead down to 9-6 heading into the final inning.
Montevallo failed to extend its lead in the top half before a two-run shot from the Argos sliced the Falcons' advantage to just one. UWF looked to score again with the bases loaded but a two-out fly ball gave Montevallo a game one victory, 9-8.

GAME NOTES
- Montevallo scored its nine runs on six hits with nine RBI, two home runs with a pair of errors while West Florida plated eight runs on 11 hits with eight RBI and one home run.
- Alisha Lanyon led the Falcons offense with three RBI off a home run in the third while Lily Stone added a pair of RBI with a two-run shot in the third.
- Shelby Sloan also tallied two RBI off a 1-for-3 mark at the plate.
- Brittany Crowson moves to 6-4 on the season with a 2.1 innings pitched while Taylor Lloyd recorded her second save of the year.
GAME TWO
Montevallo fell to the Argos, 17-9, in a five-inning game two that saw a pair of Falcon home runs.
UWF jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first before Montevallo answered with a two-run at-bat in the top of the second. After
Sydnee Reaves singled into left and
Alisha Lanyon reached on an error, a
Georgia Hughes single scored both runners to knot the game at 2-2.
West Florida rattled off seven runs in the second to regain control, 9-2.
The Falcons answered the bell again to tie the game with a huge seven-run at-bat in the third. Following a pair of singles from
Lauren Higginbotham and
Olivia Bergert,
Sydnee Reaves blasted a three-run homer over the right field fence.
Alisha Lanyon doubled in the next at-bat and scored two batters later off an
Ellie Derrick single.
Taylor Robinson hit the Falcons' second three-run home run of the inning to tie the game at nine apiece.
A six-run fourth from West Florida left Montevallo in a 15-9 hole going into the fifth where the Falcons failed to produce a baserunner.
A two RBI double from West Florida in the bottom of the fifth ended the game early and gave Montevallo a 17-9 loss.

- Taylor Robinson notched her team-leading 11th home run of the year with a three-run shot in the third.
