MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo softball team closed out a series win over Delta State with a 10-9 win on Sunday headlined by a 4-for-4 batting performance from
Alisha Lanyon.
The Falcons fell into an early 5-0 hole after the Lady Statesmen plated five runs on three hits in the second. Freshman centerfielder
Sydnee Reaves responded with a homer that flew the scoreboard in the lead-off at-bat to put Montevallo on the board, 5-1.
DSU's lead-off home run in the third extended the lead to 6-1 before UM took the lead with a six run at-bat in the bottom of the inning. With
Taylor Robinson advancing
Shelby Sloan with a single up the middle,
Alisha Lanyon sent one over dead center for a three-run shot that pulled Montevallo back within two.
Lauren Higginbotham continued the hitting streak with a single before Reaves hit an RBI triple to cut the lead down to 6-5. In the next at-bat,
Lily Stone scored the runner to knot the score at six all. A
Georgia Hughes single and a
Maddie Taylor walk loaded the bases for an RBI single from Sloan to give Montevallo its first lead of the game, 7-6.
Delta State regained control with a two-run top of the fourth. In the bottom half, Lanyon turned a stand up double into an inside-the-park home run with an incredible effort, aided by DSU miscues, to tie the game at eight apiece.
The scored stayed knotted at 8-8 through the fifth before Montevallo broke the tie with a two-run sixth. Lanyon continued her strong performance with a single before a Delta State error scored
Bentlee Stiner to give Montevallo a one-run advantage. Another RBI from Reaves lifted Montevallo to a 10-8 lead with just three outs left for DSU.
