CARROLLTON, Ga. – Montevallo softball opened the final series of the regular season with a 9-1 win over West Georgia on Friday afternoon.
With both sides blanked in the first,
Lily Stone scored the first run of the game in dramatic fashion with a solo homer to left field to the Falcons on top 1-0 after the second.
Freshman pitcher
Taylor Lloyd notched her second and third strikeouts in bottom of the second before getting the third out on an infield fly to keep the Wolves off the bases.
The Falcons offense exploded for five runs in the top of the third sparked by a three-run bomb from
Alisha Lanyon to give UM a 4-0 lead. Montevallo loaded the bases with a walk and two singles from Stone and
Georgia Hughes.
Maddie Taylor brought home the fifth run with a walk before
Ansley Hudson walked in another to take a 6-0 advantage.
Lloyd got Montevallo out a jam in bottom of the third to keep UWG off the board for another inning.
A West Georgia error scored freshman outfielder
Sydnee Reaves and lifted the Falcons to a 7-0 lead after the fourth.
Montevallo piled on two more runs in the top of the sixth to put UWG in a 9-0 hole. The Falcons home run leader
Taylor Robinson added a two-run shot on a 2-2 count to bring her season total to 14. UM looked to add a few more runs but the Wolves limited the damage.
The Falcons defense limited UWG to just one run in the bottom of the sixth to take the game, 9-1, and move to 11-14 in GSC play.

- Taylor Lloyd gets the win after throwing 5.1 scoreless innings with four strikeouts to just three hits in 20 batters faced.
- Montevallo scored its nine runs on seven hits with eight RBI, three home-runs, and two stolen bases while the pitching staff gave up just one run on four hits with five strikeouts.
