MONTEVALLO, Ala. – In a midweek contest against the Miles College Golden Bears, the No. 10 University of Montevallo baseball team flew past its opponent, 15-3.
The win marked the 28
th of the year as the Falcons are now 28-7 overall and snapped a two-game losing skid.
Montevallo began the scoring early when
Luke Mitchell delivered an RBI bloop-single to shallow centerfield to score
Ben Teel in the bottom of the first.
Teel picked up an RBI of his own in the second inning on his second hit of the day to score
Evan Liddie.
In the third, the Falcons bats broke loose as the squad plated six runs. It began with a walk and back-to-back hit-by-pitches that loaded the bases before Christian Kahaller placed a single through the left side to score one and put UM ahead 3-0.
Jake Smallwood followed the freshman with a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch to score another. Next,
Evan Liddie drilled a ball to the right field corner for two RBI as
Asa Awbrey and Kahaller each scored. Smallwood scored on the play following an error from the Miles right fielder to make it 7-0. A sacrifice fly from Teel gave him his second RBI of the day to score Liddie and give Montevallo an 8-0 lead.
Trey Felker earned the start and dominated through three innings, striking out eight and just one hit. However, in the fourth Miles claimed three runs from Felker to make it an 8-3 game. The junior finished with eight K's and allowed just three runs through four innings to earn the win.
Montevallo gained the three runs back in the bottom of the fourth and put up a seven-spot. The rally began with an Awbrey walk, another Kahaller single, and two more walks to score the ninth run of the game. A Teel hit-by-pitch added the 10
th before a pinch hit single up the middle from
Brandon Moore score two runs to give UM a 12-3 lead. To close the innings,
Zen Hiatt took the first pitch he saw to right center to clear the bases and score three runs, putting Montevallo up 15-3.
Neither side scored in the final three frames as
Trey Mooney finished off the win on the mound for the Falcons.

- Liddie and Zen Hiatt recorded the only extra base hits of the afternoon as each had a double. Hiatt drove in three runs on his one hit.
- Trey Felker earned the win to move to 2-1 and struck out eight in the win.
- Gino Cozzi struck out three from the bullpen and allowed just one hit in two innings pitched.
