Falcons Selected to NCAA South Regional, Face Barry Thursday

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo baseball team earned their fourth trip to the NCAA Division-II Tournament and first trip since 2018 with a bid to the South Region, Sunday.

The Falcons are a part of the NCAA's 56-team field that will compete for a chance to play at the College World Series in Cary, North Carolina later this month.

The Falcons are the No. 3 seed in the South Region and will face off against No. 6 seed Barry in Pensacola, Fla., Thursday at 12 p.m. central.

"The new season starts this weekend," said Head Coach Chandler Rose. "I'm excited for the opportunity to compete."

Montevallo put together a 38-14 season for the most wins since 2007 with key victories over Central Missouri, Arkansas Tech, West Florida, Alabama-Huntsville and West Georgia.

The Falcons will be looking for their second berth into the NCAA Division II Championship Series when the South Region Championship kicks off Thursday.

Montevallo is one of three Gulf South Conference teams to make the regional alongside No. 2 West Florida and No. 5 Valdosta State.

The Falcons are joined in Pensacola by host West Florida with No. 6 seed Barry and No. 7 seed Florida Southern.

"We have everything to prove," said GSC Player of the Year Sam Kuchinski. "We've been saying all year that we want the best and this is our opportunity to go prove that we belong."

In addition to three NCAA Division II regional appearances, the Falcons' baseball program made several Area appearances as a NAIA member under Hall of Fame coach Bob Riesener.
