Box Score OXFORD, Ala. – The University of Montevallo baseball team fell to No. 7-seeded Lee 10-2 in game one of the Gulf South Conference tournament, Friday.
In the first inning,
Gino Cozzi made quick work of the Flames by sitting down the side in order with a pair of K's. Montevallo then opened the scoring early in the bottom of the frame as
Barry Eiseman blasted a solo homer over the right field wall to give UM a 1-0 lead.
Lee took a 4-1 lead over Montevallo with four runs in the third on three hits and an error.
The Flames' offense continued to have success, adding three more in the fourth to lead 7-1. With another run in the fifth and a pair in the seventh, Lee pushed its lead to 10-1.
UM answered the Flames in the bottom of the eighth when
Reed Latimer scored on an
Asa Awbrey RBI single.
In the bottom of the ninth,
Alex Langford and
Evan Liddie each recorded hits to keep UM alive, but the Falcons were unable to cash in, falling 10-2.
