OXFORD, Ala. – The University of Montevallo baseball team's time in the Gulf South Conference came to and end, Sunday, with a 9-5 loss to No. 1 seeded West Florida.
West Florida took an early 2-0 lead on the Falcons in the second inning on a pair of RBI singles.
Montevallo quickly responded with a three-spot in the third. A single from
Khalid Collymore and a walk for
Barry Eiseman led off the inning before a single up the middle from
Reed Latimer drove in UM's first run. Next, a two-RBI single from
Luke Mitchell pushed the Falcons in front 3-2.
After a pair of scoreless innings on the mound for
JJ Pease, UM picked up its fourth run on a solo homer from
Jake Smallwood in the fifth to lead 4-2. A double for the Argos in the bottom of the frame evened the contest 4-4.
In the sixth, a bases-loaded fielder's choice plated Montevallo's fifth run to put UM ahead 5-4.
Three homers over the course of two innings for West Florida saw the Falcons fall behind 9-5.
UM was unable to crawl out of the four-run deficit, falling 9-5 in an elimination game at the GSC Tournament.

GAME NOTES
- Khalid Collymore led UM from the plate as he went 3-for-4 on the day, reached base for times and scored a run.
- Luke Mitchell and Reed Latimer each drove in a pair of runs to lead UM in that regard.
- Montevallo registered 10 hits and five runs while UWF scored nine runs on 11 hits.
