MONTEVALLO, Ala. – University of Montevallo baseball Head Coach Chandler Rose has announced the promotion of Ivey Starling to Associate Head Coach.
 
Starling assumes the role after serving as the Falcons' Assistant Coach and Pitching Coach for the past two seasons.
 
"Ivey has done a tremendous job the last two years and been a huge part of our success," said Rose. "His work ethic, care for the program, and guidance of the pitching staff have been tremendous. Our pitching staff has seen great success with him leading them and he's been integral in our recruiting success. He's most deserving of being named Associate Head Coach and I'm excited to continue working alongside him in building this program."
 
During his time on the bricks, Starling has helped the Falcons to 74 wins and an appearance in the NCAA South Region Tournament in 2023. While working with the pitchers, Starling coached two All-Conference players in 2022 as Connor Phelan and Gino Cozzi were each named to the All-GSC teams. Additionally, Phelan earned a spot on the D2CCA All-South Region team.
 
Montevallo led the GSC in team earned-run-average in 2022 at 3.65 and added a league-leading 454 K's. In 2023, Starling coached the Falcon pitching staff to the fourth-best team earned run average in the league and the most strikeouts for the second consecutive season with 432. In addition, opposing offenses held just a .265 batting average against Montevallo pitchers, the third-lowest of any team in the league in 2023, and led the league in 2022 with a .237 batting average against. Since Starling joined the staff in 2022, UM's strikeout numbers nearly doubled from the previous two seasons.
 
Starling joined Montevallo following stints at Georgia Southwestern and Birmingham Southern. His GSW staff led the Peach Belt in ERA in 2021. With BSC, Starling helped coach the Panthers to two conference championships, two NCAA Regional appearances, and a National Championship appearance in 2019 that included eight postseason wins.
 
During his coaching career, Starling has coached four conference Pitchers of the Year.
 
Prior to coaching, Starling played collegiately at Faulkner State Community College and Trevecca Nazarene. In two seasons at TNU he struck out 108 batters in 107.1 innings pitched.
