Montevallo Opens Season With Dominant 6-0 Win On the Road

OWENSBORO, Ky. – Montevallo women's soccer opened the season in dominant fashion after defeating Kentucky Wesleyan, 6-0, on Thursday evening.

The Falcons got out to an early lead after Madeline Milby connected with Kieran Burkey on corner kick to make the score 1-0. A few minutes later, senior keeper Emily Hounsell tallied her first save of the regular season before Kaeri Ward lifted Montevallo to a 2-0 advantage off a pass from Tori Ochoa. At the 28-minute mark, Alea Taube got in on the scoring off another Milby corner to extend the Falcons lead to 3-0 heading into the break.

Montevallo opened the second half on an offensive tear, taking four shots before the Panthers could take a single shot. Freshman forward Lainey Farabaugh recorded her first goal in a Falcon uniform off an assist from Senior midfielder Miranda Fragoso to make the score 4-0.

UM's offense continued its onslaught of goals when Raylene Alcaraz, another freshman, found the back of the net for the first time in her collegiate career. Reigning GSC Freshman of the Year Angelina Rivas added the final goal of the night with just five minutes left on the clock to seal Montevallo's first victory of the season.

Montevallo's defense stood tall throughout the night, allowing the Panthers just 2 shots, both of which came in the first half.
