NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Montevallo women's soccer moved to 2-0 in the early going of the season after defeating Trevecca Nazarene 4-1 on Saturday afternoon.
The Falcons' victory began with a chippy first 20 minutes with both sides playing hard defense, not allowing a single shot on goal. With possession flipping for the next seven minutes, Montevallo gained control of the game when
Avery Campbell fired a shot from well outside the 18-yard box that found the mark to break the ice and put Montevallo on top, 1-0, with 18 minutes left in the half.
Moments later,
Madysen Legere drew a foul inside the penalty area opening another scoring opportunity for the Falcons. Falcon defender
Madeline Milby converted the penalty try to lift UM to a two-goal advantage.
The final 18 minutes of the half reflected the defensive start with senior keeper
Emily Hounsell stopping the Trojans best scoring chance in the first.
With a 2-0 lead coming out of the half, the Falcons' offense continued to batter the Trevecca backline. Just six minutes into the second half,
Miranda Fragoso played a perfect ball into the box for a slicing
Kaeri Ward that resulted in Montevallo's third goal of the day.
Just two minutes later,
Marica Miljanovic fired a bullet past the keeper off an assist from freshman
Lainey Farabaugh to lift Montevallo to a 4-0 lead with 37 minutes left on the clock.
Fragoso nearly opened a five-goal lead but was denied by the TNU keeper before a dangerous
Kieran Burkey shot sailed just high in the 68
th minute.
Trevecca managed to put one goal on the board with 17 minutes remaining, but the Falcons' lead was too much to overcome.
