Volleyball Splits in First Day at the PBC/GSC Crossover

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo volleyball team splits the first two matches of the PBC/GSC Crossover in Augusta, Ga.
 
In the first match, the Falcons were defeated by the Pacers of USC Aiken, 3-2.
 
In the second match of the tournament, Montevallo handed Georgia College their second loss of the season with their highest hit percentage of the season at .252.
 
Macy Martin was first on Montevallo for the day with 26 kills and 28 digs. Casey Hendrixson had 49 digs on the day and totaled seven assists. Morgan Hoffman led the Falcons on the defensive side of the net with seven total blocks.

GAME NOTES
  • Allie Dishman and Macy Martin led the Falcons with 15 and 13 kills while Dishman was hitting at a .324 clip.
  • Colton Thompson was on fire as she racked up 30 assists to set a new season-high.
  • Casey Hendrixson led the Falcons and set a new season-high with 29 digs in the match.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Set 1
  • Montevallo jumped out to an 8-3 lead with kills from Morgan Hoffman, Allie Dishman and Megan Schram.
  • USC Aiken battled back to make it 9-8 in favor of the Falcons.
  • The Falcons scored the next eight points with three of them coming off kills from Dishman.
  • Both teams scored back-and-fourth but the large lead was too much for the Pacers.
 
Set 2
  • Tied at 10-10 USC Aiken secured the lead by taking the next four points.
  • Both teams were evenly matched: Kills in the set; USCA 13, UM 14 | Errors in the set; USCA 3, UM 5 | Total Attacks in the set; USCA 33, UM 37.
  • Tied 21 all, Montevallo won the next four points to take the set with two service aces from Brooklyn Hudson and kills from Hudson and Dishman.
 
Set 3
  • Both teams traded points till 6-6.
  • The Falcons took the lead to make it 12-9 highlighted with two kills from Macy Martin and Allie Dishman.
  • UM had trouble putting away the Pacers, at 18-18, USCA scored the next seven points to take their first comfortable lead of the day at 24-19.
  • A kill from the Pacers gave USC Aiken set three.
 
Set 4
  • The Pacers dominated the set by hitting at a .318 clip.
  • USCA seized control of the set by taking a 6-2 lead on the Falcons.
  • Montevallo hung in tough as they were able to shorten the gap to 16-15, advantage USCA.
  • The Pacers would go on to take the next seven out of nine points to even the match up at 2-2.
 
Set 5
  • USC Aiken dominated the final set 15-4 by hitting at their best mark of the match at .389 while Montevallo had their worst hitting percentage of the match at -.174.
  • Macy Martin and Brooklyn Hudson had the only kills in the final and deciding set.

Set 1
  • In the only set the Falcons lost, Montevallo had their second highest hit percentage of the match at .333 compared to the Bobcats .382.
  • Both teams had 17 kills in the set.
  • Montevallo had the lead late but a late set surge from Georgia College put the Bobcats in front 1-0 by taking the last four points all kills by Rachel Machovec.
 
Set 2
  • The Falcons had their highest hitting percentage of any set today at .424.
  • Macy Martin gave UM the early lead with two kills and a service error on the Bobcats.
  • After a kill from Kamble Frenette, GSCU would take their last lead of the set at 9-8.
  • The next 10 points for Montevallo all came off kills.
  • At 19-14 in favor of the Falcons, they would score the next six out of seven points with kills from Frenette and Dishman to take the set.
  • Colton Thompson assisted on nine points during the set.
 
Set 3
  • The Bobcats would take the early advantage at 7-3 before the Falcons would come back with kills from Macy Martin, Brooklyn Hudson and Kamble Frenette.
  • Georgia College had the lead the whole set until the Falcons took five straight points down 17-14 highlighted by two kills from Hudson and one from Morgan Hoffman.
  • GCSU would responded with a four-point swing of their own to reclaim the lead at 21-19.
  • Kills from Hoffman and Hudson again would put the set in favor of the Falcons 22-21.
  • While down 25-24, Montevallo stormed back with three unanswered points to take the set and the advantage in the match 2-1.
 
Set 4
  • The Bobcats would take the lead with an early point at 1-0 but this would be their only lead in the set.
  • With errors on the Bobcats and kills from Dishman, Martin, Frenette and Aliyah Thompson, the Falcons would storm out to a 9-3 lead.
  • After this the set would never come closer than four points as the Falcons went on to take the match and UM would finish with their highest hit percentage of the season in a match at .252.
UP NEXT
Montevallo will take on the host, Augusta University, tomorrow Sept. 16 for their last match in the PBC/GSC Crossover. The match is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
