Falcons Suffer First GSC Loss of Season

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Montevallo women's soccer suffered its first loss of the Gulf South Conference schedule with a 1-0 defeat at the hands of West Alabama.

Sophomore forward Angelina Rivas got the Falcons attack clicking early with three shots inside the first nine minutes with one of those forcing a save from the West Alabama goalkeeper. Montevallo kept its foot on the gas with three more shots coming before the 14th minute.

The final thirty minutes of the first turned into a defensive battle with neither side taking a shot until the Tigers broke the ice in the 38th minute to put the Falcons in a 1-0 hole heading into the break.

The start of the second mirrored the first with West Alabama putting Montevallo on its heels with two shots on goal in the first five minutes of the half. Freshman striker Isabel Dillehay looked to tie the game with back-to-back UM shots on frame but each were turned away by the Tigers' keeper.

In the 70th minute, Rivas looked to tie the game with her second shot on goal of the night but was denied by the UWA keeper.

A late Falcon goal was wiped off the board after a physical play by UM that was called a foul in the 89th minute, ending the game with a 1-0 score.
