CARROLLTON, Ga. – Montevallo women's basketball knocked down a pair of triples in the final 27-seconds of the game to complete a 15-point comeback win at West Georgia.
Montevallo got out to a slow start offensively following a deep three from freshman
Cali Smallwood in the opening seconds. A 6-0 West Georgia run forced a Montevallo timeout with 6:17 on the clock with the Wolves leading 8-3.
Lia Edwards ended the run with a layup in transition but, with the Falcons outrebounded 22-5, the Falcons trailed 16-9 after the first ten minutes.
UWG opened the second quarter with an 8-0 run to take its largest lead of the half at 24-9 with 8:02 to go. Veteran guard
Marisa Snodgrass's first points of the day ended the Wolves run and kicked off 18-4 Montevallo run to end the half.
Savannah Cook knocked down back-to-back jumpers that cut the lead to eight. Four different Falcons added to the run with each a bucket of their own before a Smallwood three made the score 28-27 with less than a minute to play. The clock ran out on Montevallo's bid for the lead at the break, but the defensive effort pulled the Falcons back from down 15.
Out of the half, the two sides traded buckets to start before UWG stretched its advantage to six-points. Cook shook her defender with a beautiful move inside to tie the contest at 35-35 with 7:26 to play. West Georgia regained control with a 40-36 lead at the 5:21 mark before Cook knocked down a jumper from deep to cut the lead down to one. A.K. Eastman gave Montevallo its first lead since 3-2 with 3:36 to play in the third. Moments later,
Isabel Grimes forced a West Georgia timeout with a corner three that capped a 10-2 UM run and gave the Falcons a 48-44 lead. Smallwood beat the clock with a bucket in the paint to foreshadow what was to come.
Montevallo led 51-46 heading into the fourth and, with a quick 5-0 run, took a 10-point lead with 9:02 to play. The Wolves used a 15-4 run over the next seven minutes to retake the lead at 61-60 with 1:46 on the clock. A pair of UWG free throws left the Falcons trailing 63-60 with 27 seconds to play. Out of a UM timeout, Snodgrass nailed a triple from the top of the key with 21 seconds left to knot the game at 63. The Falcons defense came up with a huge stop and timeout with 1.3 seconds on the clock to set up a chance to win the game. With the ball inbounded from the side by Snodgrass, the Falcons couldn't find an open man until Smallwood came free about 30-feet from the bucket. Smallwood rose and nailed the lone range game-winning three at the buzzer to improve the Falcons to 11-6 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST | Montevallo's offense struggle to find a rhythm early with a 21.4 percent shooting mark and a 1-for-7 clip from deep in the opening quarter. West Georgia dominated the glass early with a 22-5 start on the boards.
2ND | Montevallo outscored the Wolves 18-4 in the final eight minutes of the half with the Falcons shooting 7-for-12 in that stretch. The Falcons' defense held UWG to 5-for-17 from the floor.
3RD | The Falcons came out of the locker room on a tear with a 50 percent shooting mark in the third quarter. Montevallo took the lead for the first time since 3-2 with an A.K. Eastman bucket at the 3:36 mark.
4TH | West Georgia regained control with a 15-4 run after Montevallo claimed a 10-point lead to start the quarter. With less than 30 seconds left, Snodgrass knocked down a triple that tied. The UM defense forced a stop with 1.3 to play that allowed Smallwood to win the game at the buzzer.
GAME NOTES
- Despite being outrebounded 22-5 in the first quarter, Montevallo cleaned up the glass with a 28-25 advantage in the final three quarters.
- Montevallo led for all of 48 seconds in the first half but finished the game with 12 minutes of the lead in the second half.
- Montevallo was efficient shooting the ball in the second half with a 46 percent shooting mark in the third and fourth quarters.
- Cali Smallwood finished the game with 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting with the freshman scoring 11 points on 5-of-9 in the second half.
