VALDOSTA, Ga. – Falcons women's basketball fell to No. 23 Valdosta State, 87-51, on the road.

Cali Smallwood scored her first points of the game and left Montevallo behind by just one at 9-8. VSU went on another big run to leave Montevallo trailing, 21-12, at the media timeout. The Falcons cut into the lead with another Snodgrass bucket but four-straight points from VSU to end the quarter left the Falcons in a 25-18 hole.
Both teams struggled to score to start the second quarter with Smallwood recording the first points with 7:38 on the clock. Valdosta State opened up a 10-0 run to take a 35-21 lead at the second quarter media timeout. The Falcons trailed by as many as 17 at one point in the quarter before Snodgrass knocked down a pair of triples to end the half to cut into the Lady Blazers advantage.
With Montevallo trailing 42-31 out of the half, Snodgrass cut the Lady Blazers lead down to single digits with 9:16 on the clock. A 10-1 Valdosta State run in the next four minutes forced a Montevallo timeout with 4:46 to play. A
Lia Edwards layup ended a three-minute scoreless streak for the Falcons with VSU leading 56-36. The Falcons looked to cut into the lead with a 5-0 run before Valdosta State knocked down a three to go up 20 with 1:12 to play. A set of four Falcons free throws left Montevallo trailing 61-43 heading into the fourth.
Both sides traded buckets to start the final quarter before Valdosta State opened another big run to take its largest lead of the night so far. The Falcons were outscored 10-4 in the final four minutes to take its largest loss of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST | Montevallo allowed the most points in a single quarter so far this season with VSU scoring 25 in the opening ten minutes. Despite seven points from
Marisa Snodgrass, Montevallo trailed by seven heading into the second.
2ND | The Falcons went cold from the floor in the second quarter, shooting just 30 percent from the floor, while Valdosta State continued its hot start. With eight points in the paint, VSU took and 11-point lead into the half.
3RD | Montevallo shot well from the stripe but couldn't get back into the game with Valdosta State shooting 8-for-16 in the third.
4TH | The Falcons' offense struggled in the final stanza with Montevallo scoring just eight points to VSU's 26 in the final ten minutes.
GAME NOTES
- The 36-point loss is the largest margin of defeat the Falcons have suffered this season.
- Montevallo was outscored 60-18 in the paint with Valdosta State shooting 59 percent from the field and Montevallo shooting 32 percent.
- Marisa Snodgrass led the Falcons with 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting to go along with two rebounds and two assists.
