MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo women's soccer held off Delta State for a 1-0 win on Senior Day.
Delta State came out firing with the first shot of the game followed by a pair of shots on goal in the 18
th minute that forced early work from graduate goalkeeper
Emily Hounsell. The Falcons finally found their offensive footing with a shot from
Rilee Bradbury in the 28
th minute that mark the first UM shot of the game. Back-to-back shots from Bradbury and
Isabel Dillehay in the 33
rd minute nearly gave the Falcons the lead but just missed the mark. Montevallo had the final scoring chance of the half with a corner in the final minute before the break but came up empty and went to the locker room knotted at 0-0.
Montevallo's attack started the second half on a hot streak with shots from Dillehay and
Raylene Alcaraz in the opening two minutes. The Gulf South Conference's leading offense finally found the back of the net in the 56
th minute when Alcaraz found space and connected with
Shadia Valenzuela who buried it into the back of the net. Just seven minutes later, sophomore
Morgan Goehring looked to add to Montevallo's lead with consecutive shots on goal, but both were turned aside by the Delta State keeper. Hounsell kept the Falcons out in front with another save in the 69
th minute before adding a third save in the 73
rd. A final save from Hounsell in the 83
rd minute secured Montevallo's 1-0 win and improved the Falcons to 7-1 in conference play.

- Hounsell tied a season-high with five saves on the night en route to a GSC-leading 6th shutout.
- In a very balanced game, Montevallo outshot DSU 15-11 with both sides recording five shots on goal.
- Shadia Valenzuela's game-winning goal marked her fifth goal of the season, the second-most by a Falcon this season.
- Montevallo added eight corner kicks to increase the season total to 73 which ranks second in the GSC.
- Raylene Alcaraz now ranks first on the squad with four assists this season.
