Falcons Top Delta State, 1-0, on Senior Day

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo women's soccer held off Delta State for a 1-0 win on Senior Day.

Delta State came out firing with the first shot of the game followed by a pair of shots on goal in the 18th minute that forced early work from graduate goalkeeper Emily Hounsell. The Falcons finally found their offensive footing with a shot from Rilee Bradbury in the 28th minute that mark the first UM shot of the game. Back-to-back shots from Bradbury and Isabel Dillehay in the 33rd minute nearly gave the Falcons the lead but just missed the mark. Montevallo had the final scoring chance of the half with a corner in the final minute before the break but came up empty and went to the locker room knotted at 0-0.

Montevallo's attack started the second half on a hot streak with shots from Dillehay and Raylene Alcaraz in the opening two minutes. The Gulf South Conference's leading offense finally found the back of the net in the 56th minute when Alcaraz found space and connected with Shadia Valenzuela who buried it into the back of the net. Just seven minutes later, sophomore Morgan Goehring looked to add to Montevallo's lead with consecutive shots on goal, but both were turned aside by the Delta State keeper. Hounsell kept the Falcons out in front with another save in the 69th minute before adding a third save in the 73rd. A final save from Hounsell in the 83rd minute secured Montevallo's 1-0 win and improved the Falcons to 7-1 in conference play.
