Valenzuela Scores Twice as Falcons Go 5-0 to Start GSC Play

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Montevallo women's soccer continued a hot start to conference play with a 5-0 win over Christian Brothers on the road.

The Falcons' first shot on goal of the night found the back of the net when Shadia Valenzuela found the back of the net in the 17th minute to give UM an early 1-0 lead. Just moments later, Valenzuela added her fourth goal of the season to double Montevallo's advantage with 25 minutes left in the half. CBU threatened to score but both Lady Bucs shots sailed high. Senior midfielder Bailey Raphelt looked to give the Falcons a three-goal lead, but the crossbar returned her shot into play. Montevallo saw a final scoring chance with a Katelynn Kott shot in the 45th minute but were forced to hold onto a 2-0 lead heading into the break.

Raphelt fired the Falcons' first shot of the second half just over four minutes into the half but was turned aside by the CBU keeper. Montevallo took advantage of a CBU offsides call in the 52nd minute with Madison Bennett's second goal as a Falcon on the ensuing free kick. With a 3-0 lead, Rilee Bradbury took her first shot on goal of the half in the 56th minute before graduate goalkeeper Emily Hounsell stopped CBU's first shot on goal of the day just a few moments later. Sophomore Morgan Goehring assisted on open Isabel Dillehay's Gulf South Conference leading sixth goal of the season as the Falcons took a 4-0 lead with 28 minutes to play. Following an Erika Pay shot on goal, Lainey Farabaugh lifted Montevallo to a 5-0 lead with her second goal of 2024. Summer Burress looked to score in the 75th minute but was denied before Farabaugh added a second shot on goal in the 81st minute. Hounsell was forced to make two more saves in the final 3:30 to record their fourth shutout of the season as Montevallo took a 5-0 win on the road.
